(Physostegia Virginiana) Snow white tubular flowers bloom from bottom to top along knee high erect spikes of vigorous, lance leafed plants. A dazzling addition to the cut flower and cottage garden. Attracts beneficial pollinators and makes a long lasting fresh or dried cut flower.
Also known as False Dragonhead. Obedient Plant gets its name from the individual flower’s ability stay facing a different direction when lightly pushed. This plant spreads by rhizomes, divide every 2-3 years to control growth. Perennial.

Growing:
Direct sow in early fall, press seed into soil of well-prepared seed bed but do not cover as it needs light to germinate. Cold stratified seeds can also be started indoors under lights 6-8 weeks before last frost. To cold stratify, mix seeds with moistened seed starting mix or sand and place it in the refrigerator for 8 weeks, then press seeds into the soil but do not cover them with soil because they need light to germinate. Transplant seedlings outdoors after last frost. Water regularly.
Seed saving instructions for Obedient Plant:
1. Allow the flowers to dry on the plant. The seed pods will form at the base of the old flowers.
2. Watch the seed pods closely and harvest them when they are light brown and beginning to open. If the pods have already split open, the seeds may have been dispersed, so it's important to check them frequently.
3. Place the seed pods in a paper bag and store them in a cool, dry place to allow the seeds to fully dry.
4. Once the seeds are dry, gently rub the pods to release the seeds.
5. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place.
