(Penstemon eatonii) Native. Perennial. Add a splash of color with this easy-to-grow wildflower that puts on a striking display of bright red, tubular flowers in early summer. It is drought-tolerant and adaptable to different soil types. Once established, it will self-seed and spread naturally, making it an excellent addition to a wildflower garden or naturalized area. The flowers attract a wide variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
To Grow:
Direct sow in late fall or early spring, gently press seed into the surface of the soil but do not cover as light is needed for germination. To start indoors, cold stratify seeds for 30-60 days then start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow in pots with well-draining potting soil. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
