(Capparis spinosa) Perennial. A small semi-evergreen, trailing shrub, native to the Mediterranean that thrives in dry, rocky soil and heat. It is primarily grown for its edible flower buds and fruits, which are used as a seasoning or garnish. Caper is also valued for its ornamental qualities, with its showy, fragrant white to pink flowers and glossy leaves. Thrives in zones 8-11 but can be planted in pots to be brought inside in winter in colder climates. Various parts of this plants are used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments.

To Grow:
Soak seeds for 24 hours in warm water followed by cold stratification for 60-90 days. Following cold treatment, soak seeds overnight then sow in a large pot filled with well-draining potting soil. When plants are large enough to handle, up-pot or transplant out without disturbing roots as much as possible. Harden off seedlings before moving outdoors, allowing them to acclimate to their new environment.
