(Eupatorium perfoliatum) Perennial. Masses of fuzzy, snow white flower clusters bloom on top of 4’ tall herbaceous plants. Nectar filled fragrant flowers support butterflies and bees. Prefers rich, moist soil and full sun to light shade. Dried leaves have traditionally been used medicinally and thought to help set bones.
To Grow:
Direct sow in late Fall or early Spring, press seed into soil of well-prepared seed bed but do not cover as it needs light to germinate. Cold stratified seeds can also be started indoors under lights 4-6 weeks before last frost. To cold stratify, mix seeds with moistened seed starting mix or sand and place it in the refrigerator for 4-6 weeks, then press seeds into the soil but do not cover them with soil because they need light to germinate. Transplant seedlings outdoors after last frost. Germination may be naturally slow and irregular.
